Moving WW1 Concert at Peace Memorial Hall

On July 9th, the band commemorated 100 years since the Battle of the Somme at Peace Memorial Hall, North Bradley, with a selection of English and French music from the era, interspersed with readings. Music included Saint-Saens' French Military march, Faure's Pavane and Elgar's Nimrod, along with Bouquet de Paris and the Can-Can. The audience sang along to (rude) parody songs and hymns that soldiers once sang in the trenches. Haunting readings retold the emotional personal accounts, diaries and letters of those who lived and died in the horrific events of 1916.
